Project Description

This project located in the northern part of the centre of Rome in the Africano district is signed by Architects Luca De Simone and Martina Lorenzini. Totally renovated in 2019, the flat saw the use of Ermetika’s swing and sliding flush-to-wall doors with the aim of creating comfortable and modern environments. The doors, perfectly aligned with the walls where they are installed, have made it possible to create a harmonious space and make the entrances to the other rooms as invisible as possibile.

he frameless Ermetika doors, perfectly aligned with the walls, have allowed us to maintain visual continuity. Our aim was to make the entrance to service areas and the sleeping area totally invisible from the living room.

Who is DL2 Studio?

We like to call ourselves a design team. We are both dreamers and careful observers. Every project is the tool that allows us to materialise our common baggage of experiences and suggestions.

What is the most important focus when starting a new project?
The most important focus is the recipient of the project, the end user. What we are most passionate about is slowly getting to know the private sphere of our clients, investigating their needs, sharing their ambitions, targets and dreams. Customer satisfaction is our most important goal.

Can you tell us more about the Casa MS project?
M&S are a young couple who decided to buy a flat in Rome, in the heart of the Quartiere Africano. The flat is modest in size and was in need of complete renovation. The internal layout, typical of 1970s buildings, did not allow full use of light and space. The floor plan has been radically changed, eliminating the classic blind entrance and integrating it into a bright open space, where the living room and kitchen are separated only by light details on the ceiling and by shelves that act as discreet dividing elements. The transition between the several rooms of the house is accompanied by the height changes in the false ceilings, used to obtain better lighting effects. The frameless Ermetika doors, perfectly aligned with the walls, have allowed us to maintain visual continuity. Our aim in particular was to make the entrance to service areas and the sleeping area totally invisible from the living room. Wood and white: these are the dominant colours. White for the walls and doors and wood for the floor and the joinery inserts designed to embellish the rooms. M&S have their new home, completely tailored to their needs!

What role do you think a door can play in a project?
Interior doors play a key role in defining the look of a room. They are fundamental in establishing the hierarchy of spaces. A door must sometimes divide, screen or filter. Its function determines its shape and material. That is why a door should be designed according to the space it leads to, and is an integral part of the interior’s design.

What made you choose Ermetika products?
We chose Ermetika doors because we were fascinated by the possibilities of customisation and integration with the surroundings. Elegant in their simplicity, but at the same time strongly characterising.
