Project Description

The focus of this project is the transformation of a 100-square-metre flat located in a 1980s block of flats, achieved through a reorganisation of the floor plan and a reduction in service areas. The introduction of a central core, distinguished by a distinctive colour, incorporates a coat rack at the entrance on one side and, at the rear, the walk-in wardrobe of the master bedroom. This central element extends horizontally to encompass the dining area, creating a new ‘centrifugal’ internal layout of the spaces, which runs through the open-plan living area on the east side and leads to the sleeping area wing, sheltered on the west side.

The fragmentation of the boundaries, both internal and external, gives rise to a series of recesses of varying depths and dimensions, designed to accommodate different functions and elements. In the living area, all doors are flush-fitting, ensuring a clean, uninterrupted aesthetic (for access to the storage cupboard behind the TV wall, the bathroom and the passageway to the sleeping area). The door separating the walk-in wardrobe from the master bedroom, however, is a flush-fitting sliding glass door, maintaining stylistic consistency.

“The introduction of a central core redefines the spaces with a harmonious ‘centrifugal’ layout.”

Interview

How did your passion for architecture and interior design come about?

Having always been immersed in the world of construction due to family circumstances, my passion grew gradually. My university education was fundamental, as was meeting a ‘mentor’ who nurtured and sparked my curiosity about the profession.

What is the most important focus when you start a new project?

Creating a bespoke project for the client within their budget. The results are so different from one another, but passion and attention to detail are the constant elements that unite them.

In your opinion, what role can a door play within a project?

Every element in the project is a fundamental piece in its realisation. Today, a door can serve as an element of continuity with the wall surfaces; and this is a great asset for designers when required.

What made you choose Ermetika products?

I have been using Ermetika products for years now, appreciating their excellent value for money and great flexibility, particularly the xREVERx flush-to-wall system. Furthermore, the ability to create a seamless environment, to incorporate entry/passage points without creating any breaks in the surfaces, is fundamental.
