Who is the designer?
MOPA Architettura, founded in 2015 by architects Luca Mosconi and Simone Pasquali, is a design practice comprising professionals with multidisciplinary expertise, capable of managing every project from conception to completion. Sustainability lies at the heart of its approach: not only in terms of energy efficiency, but also as a balance between innovation, economic sustainability and the well-being of users. The practice specialises in refurbishments, restorations, new builds and energy-efficiency upgrades, always prioritising the client’s needs and the quality of living.
How did your passion for architecture and interior design begin?
Our passion stems from observing everyday spaces and the desire to transform them into places that reflect the people who live in them. For Mopa, architecture is a practical tool for improving quality of life, through a careful balance of proportions, light, materials, technologies and details.
Ever since our university days, this vision has been combined with a strong commitment to sustainability: for us, good design means designing responsibly, reducing environmental impact without compromising on aesthetic quality or functionality. We believe in spaces that stand the test of time, whilst respecting both people and the environment.
What is the most important focus when starting a new project?
Every project begins with listening: to the needs, habits, and way of living of those who will inhabit the space. From this, our three pillars take shape, always closely intertwined. First comes spatial functionality, which creates a dialogue between rooms and enhances every square meter; then aesthetics, expressed through a material and color language that remains true to the project’s identity; and finally technology, which lies beneath the skin of the architecture to ensure it performs at its best. The result is a harmonious composition, like an orchestra whose beauty is immediately perceived, even if its hidden complexity is not.
In your opinion, what role can the door play within a project?
The door is often an underestimated element, but in reality it plays a decisive role in the overall perception of a space. In Casa Leone, we chose flush-to-wall solutions, both hinged and sliding, precisely to eliminate any visual interruption between wall and opening: the absence of architraves allows the color and material of the walls to express themselves seamlessly, making the surfaces themselves the true protagonists of the project. In this sense, the door ceases to be merely a technical and functional element and becomes an integral part of the architectural language of the space.
What led you to choose Ermetika products?
For a project like Casa Leone, where the visual continuity of the walls was a clearly stated design objective, it was essential to rely on systems capable of guaranteeing flawless flush-to-wall integration, both for hinged and sliding solutions. Ermetika’s Absolute Swing and Absolute Evo systems allowed us to achieve exactly what we had set out to do: doors that blend into the wall, without architraves or visual interruptions, while at the same time ensuring high standards of quality and performance. In this project, what was initially a technical choice also proved to be an essential aesthetic one.
